From 1936 to 1941 the Italian African Police (PIA) kept control of the local populations in Eritrea, Ethiopia, Italian Somalia and Italian Libya. When the war moved on the police worked alongside the Italian army based in North Africa.
Manufactured from 1937, the Moto Guzzi GT 17 was a reliable motorcycle and particularly able to deal with the rough terrains of southern Europe and North Africa. The dry climate has enabled many of these to carry on serving their riders well after the war.
