The Westland "Wessex" is a British-produced derivative of the American Sikorsky S-58 helicopter. Unlike the base model a reciprocating motor was replaced by a turboprop engine. This modification entered full-rate production in April 1960 and were adopted for use by the Royal Navy in the next year. The "Wessex" HAS Mk.1 was designed for an antisubmarine warfare. The HAS Mk.31 is a version for the Royal Australian Navy. A total of 382 Westland "Wessex" helicopters were built.
The FROG company released the Westland "Wessex" scale model kit in 1963. In 1978, this kit went on sale under the NOVO brand, and in 1980 - in a package of NOVOEXPORT. The ARK Model company has produced this helicopter model since 2009.
