The British aircraft manufacturer General Aircraft Limited began the serial production of the GAL.48 "Hotspur" glider in late 1940. The "Hotspur" became a standard training glider in glider schools. It could carry eight paratroopers to their landing site. There were three serial production versions differing only slightly. There also was the "Twin Hotspur" prototype made in 1942. FROG company released the GAL.48 "Hotspur" Mk.II glider scale model kit in 1963. In 1982, this kit went on sale in a package of NOVO. ARK Model company produces this troop carrying glider model since 2009.
